Committee Programs

The Swansfield Elementary PTA sponsors many of the programs that your child(ren) and family will benefit from throughout the school year. We hope that you will consider volunteering for one of them! Volunteer coordinators can be found under Program Chairs.

After School Programs

Coordinate a variety of after-school programs throughout the year. Programs offered: Foreign Language, Lego Leagues, Karate, etc. Volunteers can assist the chair with the implementation of the after-school programs.

Carson Reading Room

The Ben Carson Reading room at Swansfield opened on November 5, 2007.  The Carson Reading Room was established to promote reading.  Students are accompanied by a volunteer to the room.  Depending on the age group, the volunteer either reads to the children or oversees the children while in the room.

Fall Fundraisers

Joe Corbis and a Direct Donation drive will be the fall fundraisers.

Family Fun Night – Game Night

PTA will host a game night in March. Games can be purchased and the PTA receives a percentage of sales. Parents and family can enjoy a game along with a sweet treat with our annual Ice Cream Social. Volunteers can help the PTA with set up of event and helping at the ice cream station.

Field Day

This event is unique to SES in that we offer Field Day for the entire day. This event occurs in May and is only successful with the great parent volunteers that help run each station. In the spring, be on the lookout in Monday folders and newsletters for information on how to help out.

Fitness Friday / Striders

We are fortunate to have a 1/4 mile track behind our school.  When the weather permits, volunteers encourage the students to run or walk the track.  Volunteers keep track of the mileage the students accumulate and tokens are given to the students to keep on a chain that they wear to signify how many miles they have completed.

Scholastic Book Fair

A mobile book store that comes to Swansfield.  Children can purchase books.

Teacher Supply Closet

PTA sponsored supply closet for our staff. Our staff spends their own funds to help supply basic items for their classrooms; we want to help offset this expense. This closet is funded by the BoxTops program but donations are always appreciated. Check the PTA newsletter for more information on how to help.

Monday Folders

Assist the teachers and paraeducators by preparing the Monday Folders for distribution each Monday.

Multi-Cultural Night

Enjoy an evening of fun and activities centered on our diverse community. Volunteers can represent the country of their choosing. Volunteers do not necessarily have to be from that country but research the culture and provide a display board with food of that country. Volunteers are also needed to supply plate, cutlery, napkins and cups for the evening. Volunteers can be available that night to help with the parade of nations.

Nominating Committee

Assist the chairperson in recruiting parents and teachers to serve on the SES PTA Executive Board.

Restaurant Night

The PTA arranges a family fun night at a local restaurant. This is a fundraising event for the PTA. In the past, restaurants have included: Chick-fil-A, Uno’s Pizzeria. Check the calendar!

School Assemblies

This program is funded by the PTA. Throughout the year, a variety of artists, performers, authors, and other individuals or groups will visit SES and provide educational entertainment presentations to the students. The programs are usually held during school hours. Volunteers can assist the chair with helping to implement assemblies.

Science Fair

Assist staff in preparing for and hosting this evening event.

Staff Appreciation

Assist the chairperson in arranging events and special occasions to celebrate the SES staff.

Store Fundraising & Box Tops

Target, Harris Teeter and Giant all offer programs in which using their card for purchases gains money for the school. You must sign up at your store each year to designate your school and participate in the program. Another facet of fundraising is the collecting of General Mills Box Top$ for Education. General Mills Box Top$ are found on cereal, cake mixes and other products. There is a collection bin for the box tops in the school lobby. Please be on the lookout for information in the Monday Folders regarding certain times of the year that we will be offering special incentives for the students to bring in Box Top$! All parents can help by registering their grocery and Target cards and by bringing sending in their Box Top$.

Student Directory

Assist chairperson in collecting, organizing, publishing and distributing the directory. This is a great opportunity that can be done on your own schedule.

Vision & Hearing

Assist school nurse in implementing this event during school hours.

Walk/Bike to School Day

This event happens in October and May. For Bike to School day, volunteers are needed to help with securing bikes in the morning and afternoon.
